Alphabet - K

Finally I've got my K

My K is for Kitchenaid my beloved mixer.

I love this mixer, although I don't use it very much...gluten free ya know. But rest assured, I will start baking again. I have four rapidly browning bananas on my counter, just waiting to be made into some delicious banana bread. I'm going to use my Kitchenaid and a recipe I found that also has coconut in it, swap the wheat flour for something else and cross my fingers. I really hope it tastes good, I hate to waste tasty, mushy, brown bananas on a flop.

This picture is really blurry, I took it with my phone, as I have lots of other times. Last night the camera on my phone just stopped working. After charging overnight, I reset everything, and it looks like there is probably something going on that isn't good.

Linked 52 - Looking In...

Yesterday was our 26th Anniversary, and we spent the evening dinning at Travail Kitchen .
Our Chef son, Andy, gave us a gift certificate to this restaurant for Christmas, and this was the first we've had the time (and wonderful excuse) to get there. He told us to get something we hadn't had before, which was pretty easy, because I don't think I have had anything that was put before me before, well, at least not in the way it was prepared.

We got the 10 course tasting choice. Oh My Gosh...it was all so very, very excellent.

We were seated at a bar-like table right by the open kitchen, so we're able to Look In and watch them prepare all of the intricate little morsels and pretty designs.

The Chef above was so cool and calm. He just smoothly made his masterpieces. It was like a Zen thing to him.

This Chef on the other hand was getting more and more stressed as the night wore on.

They used what appeared to be embroidery hoops to make sure their circles were the correct size.

Everything was so scrumptious and we had a great time. Thank you Andy for suggesting we do this.

See what everyone else had to say about Looking In...

Now, because I wasn't able to send the pictures I took of the different courses to Andy (the file ended up being too big), I am posting the delicious courses we had here.
Don't ask me what they are, because there is no way on God's green earth that I could tell you.

Andy, you were right about the tattoos. One guy that could have been a Tortuga Twin had his kitchen knives   tattooed on his arm (with some other stuff) it looked really cool.
You'll be happy to know I had enough restraint to forego the chocolate cake and let Dad eat it instead!

Alphabet...J

Hmmm, looks like I'm making a habit of posting late (this should have been Wednesday) ah well.

J j J...for me J is jars.  I like to use jars for my dry goods, specifically flour, sugar, gluten free flour, brown sugar, and raw sugar. If I don't keep this stuff in jars, midway through summer, I have beetles. I know they are in the flour all the time, but in the warm weather, they hatch and I just can't eat them when I can see them. So...keeping it in jars helps slow down the process some, and I think they look cool.

I had an extra jar, so I thought I would give it to Bob's Red Mill.

It was the norm to keep goods in glass jars during my grandmother's early married life. I found several of the same kind of jars I bought at Target, that were left in this house by my grandmother. The lids are different and the design is a bit different, but that's it. (If I really wanted to, I suppose I could paint the lids of my jars to match the ones from years ago...IF I wanted to.)

I put some of the old kitchen cabinet hardware in one. I have a difficult time parting with things that are from my family, and again, I think it looks cool.

We do a lot of canning, so we're always on the hunt for cheap canning jars. I have a few of these blue Ball jars, and I also have one green Ball jar complete with the metal lid clamp. I use it for a toothbrush holder (and it is all hard water spotted, so I'm not taking a picture of it) and you will just have to believe me when I say it is beautiful!

My daughter collects unique Ball jars with lids. Most of them are very little and I think she uses all of them for a variety of different things.
